Jesus Loves Me

Comments

Jesus is just all right with me.

holy shit, my 3 favorite things, jesus, pot and snakes on a plane.

jesus also never once said to disregard the old testament and all the hateful things that go along with it.
But that wouldn't make sense if he said to disregard it.

He wouldn't have been the messiah if he did.

Also, it would be an anachronism to expect anyone to speak out against slavery, for example, since slavery was an accepted form of commerce and society. As far as I know, there weren't any abolitionist movements, women's rights movements, or peace movements to spread those ideas. Even the J-man himself, to speak out against what the Koran (old testament) said would have negated his status as savior and would have brought even more negative attention from people other than the pharasies... the Roman government.

of course, i by no means am faulting the jesus for not speaking out against the the old testament, as it was the word of the dude he claimed to be his father. It just annoys me to no end when people claim to be christian, believe in jesus, and pick and choose what to follow simply because it is what makes them comfortable. If they believe that jesus is the son of god, then all teachings in the bible are valid, same goes if they believe that the bible is the work of an infallible god. That is my only criticism in all of this, is the pick-n-choose christiand and the sunday morning christians that believe in jesus for an easy piece of mind without having to put in any work at all into it. Being a christian and picking out only the comforting side of it is like being in the KKK because you like campfires.

The character of jesus preaches love and forgiveness, however it does draw an interesting parallel to quite a bit to earlier books of the bible, namely leviticus.

as a literary figure, meh, I'll take mr. durden over christ any day of the week.
I agree with you completely.

It shouldn't be a pick n choose, it's all or nothing. You can't claim the bible to be an ultimate truth and then pick out some passages that are an exception.

Also, not to mention the number of translations and editions, those should completely nullify the quality of truth applied to the bible.

I think that the new testament should remain completely separate from the rest of the bible as it not only breaks old testament law by being compiled with it, but because it was written hundreds of years later.

Stupid bible.

I told my mom the bible sucks a while back and explained this to her in bits and pieces.
