I really should be paying attention to my professor right now... and I am... just not with both ears. I'm still exhausted from the weekend, but it didn't hit me until last night. This weekend was fun and covered a lot of ground for my personal happiness -- my current concentration. I feel a little fucked up because I haven't been getting together with most of my friends these past few weeks, but, like I said, I've been concentrating on me and what I feel is most important. I've been having a lot of family time, a lot of homework time, a lot of guitar time, a lot of school time, and a bit of work. I think my brother's been especially lonely at home since most of his friends are gone to school, so I've been around a lot more. So, this weekend:
I turned twenty-two on Friday, got my hair trimmed, my dad treated me to lunch at Stone (God's Brewery), I picked up some ganj, met Max in Dana Point and then headed to Irvine to see Incubus (he got me a guitar case... it's so nice). This, I think, was the sixth time I've seen them since high school and to be honest, they rocked just as hard as the first time I saw them. The show was a little weaker at the end 'cuz they were playing a bunch of their new songs, but even from the grassy vantage point I had, Incubus tore the shit out of the night. They are amazing.
Saturday I called in sick and hung around my house until five or so then went out with Keely to celebrate her birthday with her friends. We chilled at her friend Nicole's for the duration of the night and I had a good time. An easygoing, fun loving, welcoming group of people for sure -- I hope they liked me... I can tell Keely seriously values their opinions (whether she adheres or conforms to their opinions is an entirely different subject). After the BBQ we went back to her home and kicked it 'Keely Style', which I'm finding productive in my own life... like last night; I get home, go to my room, change into a pair of shorts, hop onto my bed and conduct my entertainment, homework, and guitar-playing from its California-King surface. It's like I've created a little habitat that I love to crawl away and hide in. In highschool I wrote a poem called "Mi Querencia" (as an assignment based on the book, House on Mango Street) and ever since then, I've always referred to my happy place as Mi Querencia. My bed has become mi querencia.
Sunday was the day that my family was going to celebrate my birthday and my mom asked me to invite Keely. I worked Sunday morning and got home to a family surrounding the TV watching football. FOOTBALL!!! Of all fucking sports to be wasting away in front of, they chose football. I.HATE.FOOTBALL. They know that too, but whatever. It's pervertedly puerile, but I don't feel like I got the attention I deserved. It was my birthday goddammit!!!!
The best part of my birthday celebrations: incubus, my guitar case, Keely met my family, and free marijuana.
What are the 10 most memorable music performances you've seen? (Remember, "memorable" may not be good.)

These are my top 11 shows I've seen...
I couldn't narrow it down to 10... shit there's a few more I really wanted in there. Jimmy Eat World, Ozzy, A Perfect Circle, System of a Down, The Mars Volta, Incubus at Lollapalooza, Ray Charles, Eek-A-Mouse, Kingsland (on my birthday in my backyard... fuck yeaaaah)... there's a lot I would have put up there but these are the shows I took to the most and look back on in moments of nostolgia. T
he best show out of my top 11 was definitely the Dredg show at The Catalyst Club in Sana Cruz. They built a world of passion and music for the rest of us to reside on for their entire performance. They were astonishing.
Some shows goming up I definitely am taking interest in:
1. Brother Ali- May 22 at The Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach
2. Rage Against The Machine- August 11 in LA
3. 3 and Porcupine Tree- May 13 at The Grove in Anaheim
4. Fred Jones Band- April 7 at The Epicentre in San Diego
What are some charitable causes that you support or would like to support?
The Make Yourself Foundation is a charitable cause I've donated to. Well, donated and got tickets and a meet-and-greet with Incubus.
MYF will auction items including tickets, autographed shit, meet-and-greets, and band merch and give the proceeds to various charities
The show was fucking awesome. It was the best show I've seen them play.
Kuntal and I made a roadtrip out to Bakersfield (In the middle of Buttfuck Nowhere), got a night in Motel 6, met Incubus and hat pit passes for the show.
Audio: Show us cover art or share a track from the first band or solo artist you flipped for.

40 goddamn dollars to go to SOMA, the stinkpit of a venue, to go see incubus. Fuck. That. It's heartbreaking. I LOVE incubus... seen 'em plenty enough to say fuck that.
And it was great.
Southern Girl
Is everything a baited hook?
and are there locks on all doors?
if your're looking for an open book
look no further, I am yours
We'll behave like animals
swing from tree to tree
we can do anything
that turns you up and sets you free
You're an exception to the rule
you're a bonafide rarity
you're all I ever wanted
southern girl, could you want me?
So come outside and walk with me
we'll try each other on to see if we fit
and with our roots, become a tree
to shade what we make under it
We'll behave like animals
swing from tree to tree
we can do anything
that turns you up and sets you free
You're an exception to the rule
you're a bonafide rarity
you're all I ever wanted
southern girl, could you want me?
